Kitase: Xbox 360 Disc Space Will Not Compromise PS3 Version of FFXIII

Speaking with VideoGamer.com, producer on Final Fantasy XIII, Yoshinori Kitase, spoke of concerns about the Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII. Many have been concerned, wondering if the Xbox 360 port of Final Fantasy XIII will suffer due to the fact that it requires multiple discs to fit all the content. However, Kitase has relieved these worries, saying the team is working very hard to ensure the experience is the same whether it is played on the Xbox 360 or the PS3.

The team is working on the PS3 version first, as Kitase previously stated, and once they have finished that they will know exactly how much they will have to fit onto the 360 discs. In Kitase's words:

"The team is targeting to create an equal experience on both the 360 and the PS3, so there are no limitations. For example, right now we’re working on the PS3 version first, and once we’ve completed that we’ll really know how much game there will be to fit onto the Xbox 360 discs. So we don’t know how many discs it’ll be housed on for 360, but there won’t be a chance that we’ll compromise anything because, oh it didn’t fit in the 360 discs so we’ll have to take it out of the PS3 version, or vice versa."

The concern in regards to the Xbox 360 disc problem is a matter of how much content can fit onto a single Xbox 360 DVD. The PlayStation 3's Blu-Ray discs have a significantly large amount of space in comparison to Xbox 360 DVD; 50GB for dual-layer Blu-Rays and 9GB for dual-layer DVDs. This puts Square Enix and Final Fantasy XIII in a tricky position as Blu-Ray discs have the capacity to fit Final Fantasy XIII on one disc, but certainly not on the Xbox 360. This leads to the concern of compression of the Xbox 360 version to keep down the disc count. Square Enix seems adamant to dispel that concern.

Japanese Voice Recording for Final Fantasy XIII Complete

Yukari Fukui, the voice actress of Oerba Dia Vanille in the Japanese version Final Fantasy XIII, has recently confirmed in her blog that the Japanese dubbing for Final Fantasy XIII is complete. According to Fukui, the recording took around a year to complete. In Fukui’s own words:

“Final Fantasy ⅩⅢ アフレコ完結。(Final Fantasy XIII dubbing is complete)”

Good news considering it means that the story for Final Fantasy XIII is complete. As seen at E3 2009, the English localization has already begun; this included an English demo for the Xbox 360, and a trailer with English voices. Hopefully Square Enix manages to stay on track and release Final Fantasy XIII in North America and Europe for their Spring 2010 release dates.
